Alice M. Miller, the daughter of the late Joshua and Edith Winder, was born on August 27, 1924 in Finchville, MD. She departed this life on Monday, November 14, 2022, at her home in Seaford, DE at the age of 98. At an early age she married Gilbert D. Ricketts and after his death married Harry J. Miller. Alice dedicated her life to her family and to serving God. She spent many years as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and choir member at Zion Methodist Church in Federalsburg, MD. While at New Zion Methodist Church in Laurel, DE, she served on many committees and was a lay speaker. She worked diligently with the United Methodist Women and enjoyed going to conferences and retreats. She was a member of Queen of Sheba Chapter #4, serving as Past Matron (P.M.), St. Matthew Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Stars (OES), as Honorary Past Grand Worthy Matron (PGWM), LL Delaware Assembly #43, Order of the Golden Circle, Heroines of Jericho, Rahab Court #3. She served as Grand Ways and Means, chairperson of the first cookbook for St. Matthew Grand Chapter, and as Past Lecturer.
Alice is preceded in death by her husbands, Gilbert Ricketts over 15 years, and later Harry Miller of over 20 years; her brothers Joshua Winder, Leonard Winder, James Winder, Mark Winder, sisters Helen Salisbury, Flossie Hull, Anna Hammond, daughters Brenda Winder, Martha Stanley, and sons David Ricketts and Stanford Ricketts.
She is survived by four daughters Isabelle Whittington of Hampton, VA, Diane Thomas of Richmond, VA, Deborah Blackwell (Thomas), Lawton, OK, Charmain Hunter (Kenneth), Yeadon, PA, Helen Drayton, Seaford, DE, daughter-in-law, Brenda Ricketts, Orlanda, FL and Keith Miller, South Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren Frederick Whittington, Jr (Alyssia), Ryan Whittington (Jackie), Terri Whittington, Michelle Spinella, Mona Bausone (Eugene), Kimberly Bolden (Marcus), Maurice Stanley, Jr. (LaRia), Vincent Stanley (Deborah), Timothy Blackwell (Michelle), Troy Blackwell (Tina), Stanford Ricketts, Jr, and Gladys Ann Ricketts. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
