Charlotte J Johnson

God called Charlotte Jane Johnson home peacefully in her bed at home with her daughter Charlene, Son - In - Law Nate, their two fur-babies Blu` and Delilah by her side the evening of March 15, 2024 at 5:05pm.  Charlotte was born in Carthage, North Carolina to the late Herbert and Ada Hussey. Charlotte was active in athletics playing basketball in her tenure at Pickney high School where she graduated in May of 1956.  

Soon after Graduation Charlotte moved North to Philadelphia, Pa with her sisters.  Charlotte met John Johnson (deceased) and were joined in Holy Matrimony on August 13, 1959.  To this union two children were born, son John Johnson Jr. December 1960 and daughter Charlene Johnson March 1962.  After her husband’s death (1963) Charlotte purchased her home at 6729 Limekiln Pike and lived there for over sixty years. Charlotte never remarried dedicating her life to her children.

Charlotte was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friends to many. Charlotte was a very good neighbor, always looking out for the safety and well being of her fellow neighbors. When the weather permitted, you would often see her sitting on the porch, interacting with them and those who walked by. Distributing smiles and pleasant conversation.  

Charlotte lived a very simple life. She loved children and worked as a childcare provider for children in her home.  She also worked at Cheeks Childcare Center for several years as a classroom aide. She also worked at Ken Crest as a Dietitian. Charlotte’s last job was working at Ollie’s Deli on Ogontz Avenue as a Manager.  As a single mother Charlotte always made sure she provided a stable home and environment for her two children.  Charlotte had a love for sports especially her Philadelphia teams and sport teams from her home state of North Carolina.

In addition to Charlotte’s late parents Herbert and Ada Hussey, Charlotte was also preceded in death by her Husband John Johnson, Son John Johnson Jr., Brother Herman Hussey, Sisters Betty Brandon, Elizabeth Hampton, and Helen Collins.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her Daughter Charlene Johnson Schwartz (Husband Nate), two fur-Grandchildren Blu’ and Delilah; younger Sister Clarissa Baker; her four Grandchildren Carla Marie Grigsby, William Michael Vaughan III, John Johnson Jr II and Jasmine Johnson.  She also has ten Great Grandchildren Destiny Reynolds, Aiden Reed, Serenity Simpson, Legacy Bouie, Nicole M. Johnson, John Johnson Jr. IV, Jiah J. Johnson, Jahmir J. Johnson, Ricaiya Wright, and Chase Bourne.  Also a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends whom she dearly loved.
