Clarence "Butch" Barnes was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1954 to the late Leon Barnes and Martha Barnes-Martin. Butch peacefully went to join the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was educated in the Chester Public Schools.
After graduating from Chester High School in 1972, he began pursuing his musical career until he started working as a merchant seaman from 1974-1976. Following that he worked as a head cook, in a local print shop, and other jobs in and around the city of Chester.
Butch had a passion for music and dancing. He sang with “The Premonitions”, “The Deltones” as well as other local groups and “ Grace &Truth Delegation “gospel choir.
He directed the youth choir at River of Life Church. Butch also enjoyed writing songs. His words were poetic, some would say Hallmark quality.
Butch was best known for his big smile and upbeat spirit, which made him the life of the party. He was a dapper guy. His style was unmatched. Butch also enjoyed caring for his Aquarium.
Butch was a fighter, known to have “Nine Lives” as he overcame many health challenges over the years. It was said that “he made the cats jealous" as we joked about his eleven lives!”
His love for Jesus was evident and he was excited to praise the Lord with his beautiful voice. He sang until his could not sing anymore.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Martha Barnes-Martin. Four brothers: Leon Jr., Ronald, Leroy, Robert and one sister, Sheila.
Butch leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter Tiffany, three sons: DuJuan, Kevin and Diyon, as well as many other "lovebugs" from his blended family, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way! May his memory be a blessing!
