DAGSBORO-Clifton Butts, better known as Tom Boy was born to the late Lillian Ames and Isaiah Butts on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. On March 4, 1995 Clifton and Doris Hutchins were joined in Holy Matrimony by Pastor Larry Morris. God Blessed Clifton and Doris to celebrate 31 years of love and marriage. Within this union Clifton was gifted his daughters Catina Butts, Catrina Butts, Samantha Matthews, Malita Hutchins, and Tanzania Hutchins. Grandchildren that brought a sparkle to Pop pop’s eyes; Tyrone Matthews, Sophia Matthews, Taron Matthews, Latisha Abney, Keosha Abney, Aleeya Whyder, Amaiah Lankford, Destiny and Maniya Odom.
Clifton was baptized under the leadership of Elder Dexter Taylor on December 27, 2014 at New Holy Trinity Church of God In Christ. Clifton is survived by his sisters Catherine Butts and Lillian Massey his hearts. Sister-in-laws Esther Henry, Wanda Hutchins, Valerie (Joe) Mapp and Patricia O’tara. Brother-in-laws Jimmy Hutchins, Michael Hutchins, Elmer Lee Phillips, and Norman (Karen) Hutchins. In addition to parents Clifton was preceded in death by his siblings Carl Henderson, Edward Butts, Doretha Spelman and Lilly May Spelman.
Clifton loved landscaping, watching television, and hanging out with his favorite nephews Larry Johnson, Cleveland Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Jimmy White and William White. He loved each and every one of them. Above all and more than anything he loved to eat; and guess what, his wife could cook!!!
Clifton will be missed and we have memories to last a lifetime from a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and along with Clifton’s pet companion Lonnie who will miss his daddy every day.
A funeral service will be held on March 19, 2022 at 12pm with a viewing one hour prior at Calvary Pentecostal Church Bishopville, MD.
