On Monday, September 5, 2022, Laurie Ann Cooper, mother of four who she loved fiercely, passed away at the age of forty-seven. Ms. Cooper was born on March 1,1975 in Lewes, Delaware, to Corinne Cooper. She attended school in the Cape Henlopen School District and thrived at swimming and basketball.
Laurie was active and loved water. She spent most of her free time on a beach or at a pool, enjoyed swimming and passed this love to her children. Family and friends knew her for her humor, tenacity, generosity, love of Mary J. Blige, Washington Redskins, Corona, Fireball, Spades, Cornhole, and Spoons.
To know Laurie is to know she was bigger than life, her smile lit any room, she loved laughing, cooking, hosting family, crabbing, and comedy shows. Her children could expect a few texts or group Facetime calls each week before her HALO Bargain Center run, “Going to HALO, y’all need anything?”. A visit to HALO would always leave her smiling ear to ear.
She is survived by four children: Monzona Whaley (31), Keandre Whaley (30), Cierra Whaley (28), Akirra Hagans (21); an unborn grandchild due April 2023, five siblings, Angela Cooper, Kimberly Cooper, Leroy Cooper, Dustin Cooper, Steven Satchell and 14 nieces and nephews.
Laurie spent nearly two decades serving many customers that loved her and became friends at Goin Nuts Cafe, this establishment and its community meant the world to her. She transitioned into a new career in 2018 at Mid Atlantic Title and Escrow as a Settlement Processor under the mentorship of William T. Smith III who inspired her and pushed her to new limits. She was pursuing her Real Estate license.
