Lavonda Evangeline Cromwell affectionately called “Ducky” was born on August 5, 1949 to the late Emogene and Albert Custis in Laurel, Delaware. Ducky was called home to be with God on March 29, 2022 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.
Ducky received her education at Paul Laurence Dunbar in Laurel, DE and William C. Jason in Georgetown, DE. She also furthered her education at DTCC in Georgetown, DE.
Ducky loved to cook and had a passion for food especially crabs. She was a food service manager for many years, however, her real passion was caring for the children in her Wee Care Family Child Care. Ducky loved all the children and they loved her. Ducky’s caring and loving attitude was exemplified through multi- generations that she cared for within the same families.
In addition, to her parents Ducky’s was preceded in death by her husband Quentin Cromwell of Laurel, DE; grandson Jason Mills of Seaford, DE; and her brother James Copes of Pocomoke, MD.
Ducky is survived by her son Anthony (Angie) Mills Jr., of Seaford, DE; Bryan (Tammy) Mill Sr., of Harrington, DE; and Darrin Mills Sr., of Laurel, DE. Special grandsons Tavon and Darrin Jr of Laurel, DE, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Two sisters Arlene Holmes of Decatur, GA; and Marilynn (Leonard) Edwards of Riverdale, GA. One uncle Garfield Custis of Georgetown, DE and a special cousin Ernestine Oney who was always by her side. Special friends Frank Jones of Salisbury, MD whom she loving called her fourth son and Esther Robinson of Laurel, DE. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
