Melissa Thompson Obituary

Melissa Lynn Thompson was born January 14th, 1970, to William D. Thompson and Mary C. Abernathy.

She graduated from Dover High School and went on to take courses at Delaware Technical and Community College. She held several jobs over the years. Melissa worked at Chi-Chi’s restaurant as their Headline Cook; she later worked at Playtex performing Quality Control. She also worked for the State of Delaware until she took ill in 2015.

Melissa knew God was the Author and Finisher of her faith and she was determined as her health got better to always be gainfully employed, so she took her contagious smile along with her kind heart and went to work for Walmart in the Deli department. She worked for Walmart until God called her home.

Melissa love to laugh and have fun. She liked bowling, watching movies and attending family and/or social gathering. Melissa was very kindhearted and always greeting you with her warm smile whenever you were in her presence. Melissa’s pride and joy was her children, and she had no problem letting you know that. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Melissa trusted in the Lord. Melissa and First Baptist Church of Cheswold began their fellowship in 2010. She always greeted her brothers and sisters in Christ with a smile. She never hesitated to help out in the kitchen or wherever she was needed. She loved singing her hymns, reading her Bible and taking everything to God in prayer. Her kind spirit and words of wisdom will forever be remembered. Make no mistake, Melissa would also make sure you understood the words that were coming out of her mouth; however, she would say it with a loving heart and a gentle smile. She has gained her wings, but her memory is everlasting.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, William D. Thompson, mother, Mary C. Abernathy and her sister, Veronica.

Melissa’s memory will be cherished by her 4 children, Antoine {Dover, DE}, Alexis {Philadelphia}, Anthony {Dover, DE} and Andrew {Dover, DE}. Two grandchildren, Alayah Thompson and Amari Thompson {Dover, DE}.  Melissa’s memory will also be cherished by her siblings; sisters, Betsy Thompson {Georgia}, Colleen/Robert Mitchell {Georgia}, brothers, Jonathan & James Thompson {Dover, DE}, Otis Raynor-Smith {Middletown}, Henry Smith III{Michigan}and Stepdad Abby Abernathy.  There are a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends that will cherish Melissa’s memory. God knew she was ready to take her wings; we weren’t ready to let her go.
