Nyah Washington Obituary

Nyah Elizabeth Washington, 20, affectionately known as Pie, Princess, Buttercup, Miss Ny, and Liz made her spiritual return on Good Friday, April 15, 2022.

Nyah was a young woman of passion. She had a deep love of God. Nyah faithfully attended church services, Sunday School and Praise & Worship practice. One of her biggest joys was praising the Lord by way of song. Nyah had a voice that could move you to tears. She was known for stopping you mid-sentence to sing a catchy line and was always ready to hit a little dance move. Nyah also gifted her love to friends and family by making dozens of delicious cupcakes. Her cupcakes became such a local hit, Nyah created her own bakery business called Ny’s Sweet Treats. Her passion for cooking did not stop at sweets, she also was known to whip up family-style dinner for her friends at college. Nyah’s specialty was stuffed shells.

Nyah’s sisters and parents often joked about her anti-social temperament and how she had firm boundaries with family, but her true selfless giving personality was front and center when she was working her kids. Nyah loved children and the kiddies loved Miss Ny right back. She devoted her time at Virginia Wesleyan to getting her teacher certifications where she planned to work closely with youth who had special education needs. Nyah was employed at three different daycare facilities and in her free time she offered private nanny services. There was rarely a time she didn’t have a child in her care.

Nyah’s carefree spirit was always on display. She was a modern day renaissance woman. There’s nothing she couldn’t do. Nyah loved weeknights playing board/card games with her family, painting, drawing, and writing poems. She enjoyed reading fantasy novels, Marvel movies and all things Disney. Nyah was such a fan of Disney movies and shows, she created a Disney club at her college where she would meet friends to watch movies and do Disney trivia. Nyah was determined to take it all in. She ventured into traveling with her older sister, she watched her Grammy close while she cooked to take in those old family recipes, she hung back at her aunt’s house watching football and basketball playoffs, hype as ever when Steph Curry or Patrick Mahomes were playing.

Nyah will be forever remembered for her huge smile and infectious laugh. She kept her friends and family’s spirits high with daily jokes and tik tok sharing. She valued family, cherished her friendships and believed in celebrating life every day and with that energy we will keep her memory alive.

Nyah’s paternal grandparents, Charles and Helen Washington and her great aunts, Vanessa Robinson, Myrtle Jenkins, and Lavenia Smith proceeded her in passing.

However, she leaves to cherish her loving memory, her parents, Richard and Darlene Washington; four sisters, Riane Washington of Vallejo, CA, Ciara Jenkins of Philadelphia, PA, Halle Washington of Sacramento, CA and her twin, Nazhae Washington of Seaford, DE; one nephew, Darius Washington-Norwood; maternal grandparents, Linwood and Francine Jenkins of Seaford, DE; aunts, Nicole Hilliard (Lonnie) of Harrington, DE, Bridgett Washington of Seaford, DE, Dalila Washington of Middletown, DE; uncles, Jeremy Evans of Bowie, MD and Michael Washington of Georgetown, DE; spiritual parents, Bishop & First Lady Parker, two special friends, Alaycia Williams and David Vanterpool and host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
