Sylvia Ruth Hickman born September 17, 1954 to the late Samuel and Ruth Hickman in Winston Salem North Carolina. Later the family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she resided to her passing on June 19, 2022.
Sylvia was educated in the Philadelphia School system where she was a graduate of John Bartram High School and also obtained numerous certificates in computer science. Sylvia had several jobs but spent most of her career employed at the former Graduate Hospital as a unit clerk where she was a great support to all staff. Sylvia loved that position and everyone.
Sylvia had a love and personal relationship with God, Prayer, lighting of incense and feeding her birds were some of her spiritual practices. Because of her love and deep relationship with God Sylvia had a non-judgmental and loving heart. SHE HAD A DEEP CARE FOR ALL SHE KNEW.
Although Sylvia had no biological children she mothered many. She was a safe haven for all in her community. Sylvia’s love for her community extended to her final place of residency at 1710 North Croskey Street, Bentley Hall where she was consistently looking out for her neighbors by giving food, collecting mail or lending a listening ear.
Sylvia was proceeded in death by her father and mother Samuel and Ruth, stepfather Zedrick Thomas, her life partner Jeffrey Sears, and great nephew Julian.
Sylvia leaved to cherish her memory her three sisters Sandra Shepard Hickman, Samandra Hickman-Ford (Brother in law Glenn Ford), and Sammye Jean Hickman. Four nephews James Carl Pierce, Jerome Alexander Pierce, Clyde Andrew Shepherd, Michael Anthony Ford, Gibril Thomas Ford, one niece Donyia Genine Sanders (Ernest Sanders). A host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, family and special friends.
